Hey Mark,as you are one of the more connected and informed MPs, I’m sure your aware of the recent protests against the cult of Scientology (Wikinews international report: “Anonymous” holds anti-Scientology protests worldwide - Wikinews, the free news source)Is there anything the government can do to get rid of this cult? They have an extensive criminal history in Canada, and it seems that new problems crop up every day. Infact, some good friends of mine were stalked for blocks after a recent protest by Scientology’s ‘office of special affairs’
time line of Scientology’s crimes in Canada: Scientology in CanadaIf there isn’t anything else the goverment can do, thats understandable, Canada has been very forward about making sure that they don’t get special privilege.
At any rate, thank you for reading this, and taking the time to listen.
MP Holland:
I don’t know a lot about Scientology to be honest. I have met many Scientologists at events but have never gone that deep into their beliefs.Breaking up any religion is almost impossible to do. Freedom of thought and religion are guaranteed in Canada. Should they commit illegal acts, however, those acts are not protected and can be prosecuted. I haven’t seen anything in the main stream media that matches what you forwarded. That said, if there are abuses - certainly those can and should be prosecuted under existing law.-Mark
