Anti-Scientology protest in Portland

Masked men and women protest outside a Scientology Center in Downtown Portland. The group, calling itself anonymous, staged similar demonstrations all over the country on Sunday. They claim that Scientology extorts money from people, and also suppresses freedom of speech by threatening legal action against critics of Scientology. Several web sites have been attacked by Scientologists, but the church says that it’s only because the sites feature material copyrighted to the church. The infamous Tom Cruise video, featuring the actor touting the benefits of Scientology, has been featured on countless sites. The church says this is a legal violation, since it’s being posted without permission. The Church of Scientology also issued a statement, calling the protesters “Religious bigots.”
