Los Angeles (dbTechno) - The online faction known as “Anonymous” took another shot at the religion of Scientology over the weekend as protesters gathered in Los Angeles in front of the Church of Scientology on Sunday. Other protests were planned beyond Sunset Boulevard, in Canada, Europe, and across the U.S.The online group “Anonymous” protested on Sunset Boulevard on Sunday.
The group stated that they have a problem with the ideals of Scientology, such as “Disconnection.”
They argue that Scientology promotes people to cut off ties with their family.
The date of February 10 was chosen for the protest as that is the birthday of Lisa McPherson who died under the case of Scientology 13 years ago.
The Church of Scientology, through their Oceania branch, stated that “Anonymous is perpetrating religious hate crimes against Churches of Scientology and individual Scientologists for no reason other than religious bigotry.”
“It is Anonymous that has repeatedly attempted to suppress free speech through illegal assaults on church web sites so as to prevent internet users from obtaining information. They have also engaged in other harassment including threats of violence in telephone calls, fax transmissions and e-mails, not to mention the anonymous mailings of white power to dozens of our churches.”
Protesters were out in large numbers and kept their identity a secret. They cheered as people honked responding to signs which read, “Honk if you think Scientology kills.”
